Established in 1957 by Tony Dunn, this private, independent boarding and day school serves grades 6 through 12, fostering a community where students are fully seen, heard, and known.

Rigorous Academics and Personal Growth
At Dunn School, the educational philosophy centers on the conviction that the depth and quality of the relationship between students and teachers is central to the process of education. The curriculum offers a range of courses, including Art, Biology, Calculus, English Language, English Literature, Environmental Science, Spanish, Statistics, U.S. Government, U.S. History, and World History. With an average class size of 12 and a student-to-teacher ratio of 5:1, personalized attention is a hallmark, ensuring each student receives tailored guidance.

Core Values that Shape the Future
Dunn School's commitment to whole-student education is evident in its five core values: emotional wellness, physical readiness, intellectual growth, social responsibility, and moral courage. This philosophy permeates every aspect of campus life, from academics to extracurricular activities, fostering a nurturing environment where students thrive.

A Campus Designed for Exploration and Growth
Spanning 55 acres, the campus retains the rural identity and country charm of the Santa Ynez Valley, with ranch-style buildings that open to the outdoors, athletic fields with mountain views, and outdoor meeting spaces under the massive oaks that characterize California's Central Coast. Facilities include a performing and fine arts center, an outdoor heated swimming pool, and on-campus residence halls. The Sinclaire Art Studios feature a painting studio, ceramics studio with an outdoor kiln, and a multimedia classroom for digital photography and filmmaking students. The gymnasium, equipped with cardio equipment, free weights, weight machines, and a massive climbing wall, supports various athletic endeavors.

Athletics and Arts Excellence
Athletics play a significant role at Dunn, with offerings such as baseball, basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, track and field, ultimate frisbee, and volleyball. The school's extensive arts program empowers students to find their voice through fine arts, theatre, music, filmmaking, and more. Students can choose from art courses and activities such as acting, ensemble, and improv, as well as six styles of dance, including hip-hop, ballet, and Scottish country.

Innovative Programs that Inspire
Dunn School offers distinctive programs like the Robert W. Jurgensen Entrepreneurship Program, one of the most comprehensive and dynamic entrepreneurship programs in the nation. The Winter Term allows students to discover their passions through two weeks of intense focus on a single subject, both academic and physical, challenging minds and expanding horizons. Additionally, the school emphasizes outdoor education and global character education, being part of the Round Square network of 200 schools worldwide.

Recognitions and Alumni Achievements
The school's dedication to excellence is reflected in its alumni achievements. Notable alumni include Abu Danladi, the Major League Soccer #1 overall draft pick in 2017; Aidan Terry, an Oscar-winning animator; and Ted Alemayhu, recipient of the 2008 UN Lifetime Achievement Award.

A Vibrant Community in a Scenic Setting
Located in Los Olivos, a charming town in the Santa Ynez Valley with a population of approximately 20,000, Dunn School is surrounded by the Los Padres National Forest and is a short drive from the Pacific Ocean. The nearest major city is Santa Barbara, 30 miles to the southeast, offering cultural attractions, shopping, and dining.
