Centre Wellington District High School (CWDHS) is located within the close-knit community of Fergus, Ontario. With Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSMs) in Business, Environment, Health and Wellness, Hospitality and Tourism, Sports, and Technology, students can learn relevant skills for their future careers. Students can immerse themselves in the French language and culture by enrolling in the French Immersion program. Technology courses are available for students who are interested in robotics.
FACILITIES
CWDHS campus facilities are constantly being updated with new technologies to enhance students' education. The media center recently underwent a $100,000 renovation to install new speakers and computer systems. The school also centers around a beautiful light-filled atrium as a common space.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Athletes can choose from many team and individual sports. Students can compete in soccer, swimming, field hockey, curling, tennis, running, golf, ski racing, basketball, and volleyball. Hockey players of all skill levels can join the Ice Hockey Skills Academy.
Students can choose from a wide variety of art classes in subjects including music, theater, watercolor, prints, sculpture, photography, mixed media, and visual arts.
AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Centre Wellington received a Gold Certification by the Ontario Ecoschools Program. The certification is awarded to schools that are environmentally friendly.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION
The school district is one hour west of Toronto. Fergus lies along the Grand River about 25 kilometers north of the university town of Guelph and the University of Waterloo. Fergus is a vibrant town with a population of about 20,000.
