SCHOOLS AND ACADEMIES
Qualicum has two high schools in its district. Ballenas is located in Parksville and Kwalikum is located in Qualicum Beach. Students have an opportunity to participate in excellent academic, performing arts, and athletic activities such as golf, soccer, ice hockey, and music. They also have an amazing semester outdoor education program called ROAMS (River, Ocean and Mountain School). A wide range of extracurriculars are available including Model UN, eco club, robotics, student council, leadership, choir, and science club.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Qualicum School Distrit is very excited to offer students the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the world of golf with its Golf Academy. The KSS School of Golf at Pheasant Glen will satisfy the needs of the dedicated golfer that strives for the highest level of golf possible. This year long course will provide golf swing instruction by a PGA professional as well as lessons in golf etiquette, course management and tournament play. Students will also be introduced to the operations side of the golf world with instruction in tournament management, retail sales and golf resort management.
Being on an island they are surrounded by water, so take advantage of the location and learn to kayak, sail, kiteboard, swim, scuba dive, canoe, or surf. Many outdoor activities here are centred on the ocean or one of the many nearby freshwater lakes and rivers. Try your hand at fly fishing, experience the thrill of landing a wild Pacific salmon, learn to waterski or wakeboard…. it’s water, water everywhere on Vancouver Island!
This community supports an active lifestyle including opportunities to take part in organized sports and teams. Hockey, baseball, soccer, football, basketball, rugby, lacrosse, volleyball… there’s something for all ages, and at all levels.
The Qualicum Music Academy’s intensive music program provides high school students the opportunity to benefit directly from specialized music instruction and guidance. All students will have the opportunity to play in large and small ensembles with highly motivated peers who have the same commitment to academic and musical success. Each student will receive comprehensive, professional instruction from qualified instructors and clinicians in a nurturing environment that is committed to excellence. Through their Involvement in the Academy program, students will greatly enhance their skill and knowledge in the music field and will have the chance to participate in opportunities at the highest possible level during their grade 9-12 school years.
Students can also participate in sculpting, media arts, graphic arts, drama, and musical theatre.

This school district includes two charming beachfront communities: the City of Parksville and the Town of Qualicum Beach. They are surrounded by natural beauty of beaches, mountains, forests, lakes and rivers. They have 170 international students from 17 different countries that enjoy an active lifestyle in the mildest year round climate in Canada.
