The Charles Finney School is a private day school located in northern New York State. Established in 1992, the school offers students a college preparatory curriculum as well as a dual enrollment program (college-level courses) with Roberts University, Houghton College, and Monroe Community College. These credits also transfer to numerous other colleges. Their graduates are attending many of the best colleges and universities around the country.
FACILITES
The 16-acre campus has a state-of-the-art 3D printer, modern science labs, a library, and an auditorium. Its athletic facilities include a gymnasium, weight room, locker rooms, sports fields. The Robotics program is supported by a CAD program, CNC machine, and many other pieces of equipment. Participants learn with hands-on experiences.
SPORTS AND ARTS
The school offers 7 boys’ teams (American football, soccer, basketball, bowling, golf, baseball, track and field) and 5 girls’ sports teams (volleyball, soccer, basketball, bowling, softball, track and field). Boys’ basketball has won two New York State Championships along with many Sectional championship teams. Volleyball, soccer, and girls’ basketball have all won Sectional championships.
Fine arts classes and extracurricular activities such as art, music, visual and digital arts, and theater are offered. Many students have won regional and state awards in various competitions.
AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Charles Finney School leads the way in the Rochester region with Scholastic Art Awards. It was the first private school to participate in the US FIRST Robotics competition, placing in the top spot in 2004 and 2013. The Robotics team also placed second in the Robotics World Competition.
COMMUNITY INFORMATION
Penfield is part of the Greater Rochester area. Bordered by the picturesque Irondequoit Bay, the town is just 15 minutes from downtown Rochester, an international center of higher education which offers a host of attractions and events like music and arts festivals. The school is 5 1/2 hours away from New York City and three hours from Toronto, Canada.
