Founded in 1853, Grier School’s strong college preparatory program includes 22 AP courses and nationally recognized dance, horseback riding, and fine arts programs.
FACILITIES
Grier’s facilities include art studios for ceramics, fiber art, and photo printmaking, computer studios, language classrooms, and the Landon Library, containing 16,000 volumes. The campus also houses the Fine Arts Center, the Science Center, the Performing Arts Center, a state-of-the-art fitness center, an outdoor heated pool, two indoor horseback riding rings, a music building with grand piano studios and an orchestra rehearsal room, a video and music production lab, and a brand-new greenhouse.
SPORTS AND ARTS
Grier offers competitive sports such as cross country, soccer, basketball, volleyball, fencing, horseback riding, and tennis. For those who enjoy having fun while being active, students may take fitness classes, participate in intramural sports, or join the outdoor adventure club.
For arts, Grier’s course offerings include drawing, graphic design, video production, pottery, costume design, jewelry design, private music lessons, and music ensembles to name a few. Additionally, Grier has a world-renowned, year-round dance program that incorporates arts with athletics. It offers ballet, pointe, jazz, modern, contemporary, hip-hop, tap, musical theater, and flexibility and strength building at every level from beginner to expert. At the annual Grier Gala, students can participate in workshops, watch visiting professional dance companies, perform, and even audition for companies.
AWARDS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Grier is ranked as the Best High School for Arts in Pennsylvania, the 4th Best All-Girls High Schools in Pennsylvania, and 34th Best All-Girls High Schools in the USA on Niche.com. Newsweek ranks Grier’s STEM program in the top 20% of US schools. Grier also proudly received the AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award, Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) National Championships in Western, Hunt Seat, and Dressage.
DORMITORIES AND STUDENT LIFE
On campus housing options include dormitories and cottages. Dorm double rooms include bathrooms and furnishings while cottages offer living rooms and kitchens. On weekends, students can take trips in the local area to enjoy shopping, restaurants, cultural events, and social activities. Once per month, girls may participate in a social event with a nearby boy’s school. Day trips to New York City, Washington DC, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh are offered as weekend activities throughout the year.
